Agreement helps businesses realise value of exports

The Industry Capability Network Ltd (ICNL) with its database of 30,000 Australian companies has joined forces with Austrade with its 110 offices around the world to assist Australian businesses find international success. Austrades Managing Director Peter OByrne said the Co-operation Agreement will provide information on Australian industry capability and raise awareness of export opportunities for Australian businesses. Austrades relationship with ICNL has been strengthened through the agreement which will increase our ability to encourage exports, Mr OByrne said. The Agreement with ICNL is timely given the increased export opportunities brought about through Free Trade Agreements with the United States, Thailand and Singapore. Austrade, the Australian Governments export agency, is driving to build awareness about the value of exporting to the community and to increase exporter numbers, he said. ICNLs Chairman David McLachlan said the Co-operation Agreement with Austrade will mean his organisation can draw on its database of businesses that have never exported before and help many become exporters. As Australias pre-eminent capability supply chain organisation were able to identify firms that provide specific goods or services and match them up with Austrades international network of export consultants who identify export opportunities, Mr McLachlan said. With the event of global supply chains becoming more frequently drawn upon and the advent of free trade agreements our renewed relationship with Austrade will mean were looking to work more closely together to ensure opportunities in the total supply chain are taken up by Australian firms. ICNL will identify potential exporters in general and also identify particular companies who might be able to meet direct inquiries from Austrades overseas offices. For example, if there is an export inquiry through Austrade for a hovercraft, we will identify the business who builds them and assist them in winning the export business to become exporters, he said. Austrade is the Australian Governments export and international business facilitation agency whose mission is to contribute to community wealth by helping more Australians succeed in export and international business. The ICNL on the other hand is an independently managed, non-profit organisation financially supported by State Territory and Australian Governments. It has a network of more than 24 offices located around Australia and New Zealand. Its mission is to maximise Australian and New Zealand industry participation in investment projects and global supply chains.
