Mallyons on the Murray Bush Cafe and Gallery is a very special place not to be missed if you are travelling near Morgan or Waikerie in South Australia. If has become a favourite stop for both local Riverlanders and travellers since its opening in 2000. Easily located by road on Hwy 64, 18 kilometres east of Morgan or by houseboat, it is a surprise oasis of refreshment where the Mallee outback meets the Murray River. Where the Overlanders from New South Wales once stopped to water their stock and rest their weary legs. The hotel, established 1860, was built for the paddle steamer industry and later a stopover for the Cobb & Co. The hotel, once named Mallyons Public House, is now the family home and the stone stable has been rustically restored to a licensed cafe, which provides a varied and home cooked menu, using certified organic produce. Come and enjoy one of Rita's famous pancaked lathered in her delicious fruit jams and whipped cream. Tuck into a warm chicken salad or an Overlanders lunch and experience the taste sensation. The meals are reasonable priced, and a range of certified organic wine and apple scrumpy is available. Quality local craft ware and a huge display of paintings provide a colourful backdrop to dining and a solution for that special gift. You can also purchase Nick and Rita's certified organic fruit and vegetables in season. Enjoy the real flavour of a succulent peach or nectarine and strawberries and figs to die for. Jams and sauces made at Mallyons can also be purchased. For those interested in solar energy, Mallyons is totally solar powered excepting gas cooking and visitors are welcome to ask questions and to view the system. Take a stroll through the gardens and 15 acres of organic orchards. For the more energetic, a downhill walk to the magnificent Murray River or if you choose to, enjoy the view from atop. Families with young children love the cafe for its kid's room with its dressups, books, lego and toys. Host and hostess Nick and Rita welcome you to visit their little bit of Paradise.
