Blackwood Forest Retreat is an 8 acre property in the South Gippsland Bass Coast area owned by Annie and Steve Durie We have a vision to extend our current wildlife care activities at the property to create a Wildlife Refuge which will include several acres of wildlife habitat, with supporting facilities for rescue and care of injured and orphaned wildlife We are currently engaged with Landcare planning a revegetation planting of 2000 South Gippsland indigenous forest plants, ranging from native grasses to giant eucalypts, in the 2013 Autumn planting season At our previous rural property in Kongwak, South Gippsland, we successfully undertook a revegetation project which involved growing 10,000 native and indigenous plants from seed, in a purpose built hothouse which was itself a significant project over many months Since then we have cared for, raised and rehabilitated an extraordinary family of wild animals including numerous birds, wallabies, wombats, kangaroos and possums
