Abuse and Neglect of Individuals with Disabilities
Learn how to recognize signs of physical, sexual, and emotional abuse, neglect, and financial exploitation in a variety of situations. Abuse, neglect, and exploitation are all serious issues in systems and institutions that provide support for people with disabilities. Recent studies suggest there is an alarmingly high rate of physical abuse, neglect, and sexual victimization of people with disabilities among those with intellectual and developmental disabilities, yet only a tiny fraction of these are reported. Emotional or mental abuse is also widespread. In this course you will learn how to report an allegation of maltreatment, and how to respond to incidents you see first-hand, as well as learn practices that will help you prevent a person with disability experiencing abuse.
