At shearing, each fleece
is bagged separately, to be sorted and cleaned later. The fleece is turned onto
a mesh table to pick out all the vegetable matter,then the best of the fleece
The next stage is carding where small handfuls are fed and brushed
onto a roller covered in pins. This stretches and lines up the fiber making it
easier to spin.
To make one ball of wool, two bobbins must be spun, then twined
together using the spinning wheel in the other direction.
Felting requires elbow grease. The fleece is
carded first, then small handfuls are rubbed onto a flat surface using hot
water and detergent. Keep adding fleece until the desired thickness is
reached.It can be whatever size is needed. The felted bags are felted onto
doilies so the doilies becomes the lining.
