Jaw pain - TMJ dysfunciton
Lifecare Mount Pleasant Physiotherapy
Physiotherapy, Pain, Exercise Program
The treatment of jaw pain is often related to the neck joints and the jaw joint. Treamtent of both is usually essential, along with a dentists review to see if a night splint is appropriate. Special exercises really help strengthen specific jaw muscles (not chewing on a cork - very old fashioned exercise).
Often sitting at the hair dresser for a long time with your head in the shampoo'ing bowl can cause this pain, or even a long visit at the dentist with your head tipped backwards for a long procedure. Make sure you talk to your therapits and let them know you need a rest.
