Shoulder impingement is the most common cause of shoulder pain. 20% of people will have some signs and symptoms at some time in their lives.
The main complaint is of pain on the outside of the shoulder, especially with activities that involve lifting the arm out to the side.
Pain is also commonly felt with twisting movements of the arm, such as putting on jackets or coats, or putting your hand behind your back (such as doing up a bra strap or reaching in to your back pocket).
Physiotherapy can help by restoring the normal flexibility and strength of the shoulder muscles and promoting an optimal position for the shoulder to reduce pain.
A physiotherapist will assess and treat you with the assistance of ultrasound to reduce inflammation and give a supervised and structured home exercise program.
