In the motorcycle finance industry, we have a lot of people who like to ride. Many who start out without a motorbike eventually become fans and eventually buy one of their own. Motorbike Rides After a motorcycle loan goes through, we often get asked if we know of any great places near Perth to just go out and ride. Consequently, we have decided to do a two part series on great motorbike rides near Perth. Since favourite places to stop along the way are subjective, we are going to concentrate on the ride itself and let you take care of the rest. *O’Brien Road- Ride east on Toodyay Road until you reach O’Brien and turn left, or north. Cruise O’Brien Road until you feel like turning around. O’Brien Road doesn’t have a lot of traffic, and the scenery is beautiful. It is hilly enough to give you a bit of a challenge, especially with shifting winds. The roads have good camber, and there isn’t a lot of enforcement there. This is a great place to be alone and feel the wind on your face. *Bullsbrook to Bindoon - This route follows the Swan River. This is another place where there are plenty of hills and curves. The ride is approximately 40 km on Chittering Valley Road, but there are a lot of fun places to turn off. The only caveat here is that many of the side roads have a surface of ball bearing gravel. You may want to stay on the main road. The Chittering Estate Winery makes for a nice stop. *Martin to Karragullen via Bedfordale - This 60 km route starts in Martin. Ride Northeast to Canning Mills Road, and turn left at Urch Road. Then, you go in a giant circle that isn’t really a circle. You have a lot of options here. The main allure here is possibly the best collection of Twisties in the Perth area. Be careful for oncoming traffic and honkey nuts. *Canning Mills to Kalamunda - This 50 km ride starts at Canning Mills and heads north into the Kurong National Park. It then circles to the left through Mahogany Creek and Helena Valley, and eventually ends up in Kalamunda. This is a nice ride that is close to Perth, and makes for a quick weekday jaunt. Unless you like riding in traffic, though, avoid this ride on the weekend. Stay tuned for our next post on the rest of the great motorbike rides near Perth.
