SING YOUR OWN SONG: Summer Songwriting Intensive Treat!
Finding Your Voice: individually tailored singing lessons
Singing can be a joyful way of connecting with and expressing yourself. Imagine how much more powerful this can be when you Sing your own Song!
Anyone can write a song, even with no musical or singing experience, and anyone can develop their existing skills into new areas. This course can be taken by people looking for a fun means of self-expression and confidence building and/or by serious songwriters - and songwriters to be - looking to find new ways of shaping and creating songs. It is an opportunity to fill the creative well of ideas, learn new ideas about what makes a song work, and break out of any songwriting ruts you may have fallen into.
Over eight sessions you will be guided and supported through the processes of writing and presenting a song from beginning through to a humble nurturing performance. In the first six workshops (2 x 1.5hrs, 4 x 3 hours) you will begin to explore ways of finding inspiration, developing your creativity, creating lyrics, making up melodies and song structure. No musical experience is necessary, but for those with music skills there will also be ideas for developing harmonic structure.
The next session will be EITHER: a 1:1 lesson to help prepare your song(s) for performance OR; a group masterclass (your choice). In this lesson, your group facilitator, Raelene, will help you focus on an area of your choice: it may be singing skills, it may be performance technique and some clues to manage nervousness, and/or I may help develop an accompaniment for your song.
There will be fun tasks to do between workshops, so please allow time for this to get the maximum benefit and enjoyment from the course.
The final session will be our final event where you sing your song(s) to the rest of the group. Whether or not additional people attend the performance will be a group decision.
Raelene Bruinsma is an experienced singer/songwriter, singing teacher, short course and workshop facilitator, and singing leader. Raelene believes both in the power and purpose of music and songwriting as a community building acvtivity open to all, as well as as a virtuosic artform and wishes to see people engaging in fullfilling forms of music making at all levels.
