Ultrasound, Corrosion, Transducer
Read below for some important information to prevent corrosion damage to your connector.
We have had many transducers arrive at our repair centre recently with severe corrosion inside the connector. Operators claim there is no way they have submerged the connector in the cleaning fluid. We decided to try and solve the mystery of how water was entering the connector and were suprised with the findings.
When you clean an ultrasound transducer using any fluid based technique and hang the probe for drying, the fluid on the surface of the probe and cable tends to run down the cable and over the connector. If the water takes the wrong path it can enter the joins in the casing of the connector and cause catastrophic corrosion within the connector assembly.
We recommend operators wrap an absorbent material around the cable just before the connector to ensure no fluid can reach the connector assembly. Alternatively, ask us about our AbsorbaTRON!
See our timelapse video below which shows how fluid can easily enter the connector.
