Nets Withstand York's Thunderstorm Fury On January 30, York was hit by a massive storm which resulted in widespread damage to property. Wind gusts of up to 120 kilometres per hour tour roofs from houses and trees out of the ground. Ten houses were completely destroyed and 1200 homes and businesses were without power. One shire president is reported to have said it was more frightening than a cyclone. One year ago, Commercial Netmakers built a 10,000 m2 facility for a client that was right at the heart of the storm. Recently, we went to inspect the premises for damage to the net and structural integrity. We were very pleased to find the structure as solid as the day it was finished. The netting had stretched, which is to be expected in a storm of this magnitude (see image below). A simple re-tensioning of the netting structure is all that is required. More importantly, the structural integrity of the facility remained. No poles, cables or anchors had moved or stretched during the storm. We are extremely pleased with the performance of the structure during this freak storm. Whilst houses were being flattened, our nets withstood the fury of the storm.
