Building for Sustainable Communities
is different to public housing and private rental. It offers a secure and affordable housing option for people on low to moderate incomes, and is managed by a community organisation. In this case the housing offered is either owned or managed by The Housing Network.
With up-to-date, well maintained properties located throughout the Hume region of Victoria, we aim to house people in the community of their choice. The Housing Network is committed to increasing the supply of affordable housing and works with many other community organisations to encourage sustainable, long term tenancies.
Rent in community housing is calculated at below market value and depends on your household income. Generally no tenant will pay more than 30% of their gross income on rent. Successful applicants must be eligible for Commonwealth Rent Assistance and/or public housing in Victoria.
There is no waiting list. Instead, you may submit an application to on onto The Housing Network's Housing Register. Approved applications stay on file for 12months. If you have not been offered a property within that time and you are still interested, you will need to submit an updated application.
