Many homeowners still at risk from downlight fires.

The government has begun the inspection and repair of defective installations carried out under the Home Insulation Program.

But homeowners need to be certain that halogen downlights that reach temperatures well in excess of 100⁰C are safely isolated from combustible materials in their ceilings and particularly insulation.

The proven way to prevent the risk of fire with these downlights in a ceiling is to isolate them using products like Arrowform’s Isolite, which safely encloses the downlight and prevents all contact with loose and flammable materials both now and in the future.

Despite more than 190 home fires since the Home Insulation Program begun, the government has still not been clear about whether they will require downlight protectors to be used in rectifications. This is despite the fact that they mandated their use under the former program – sadly after it was too late for so many homeowners.

Homeowners are urged not to wait for the government to act on downlight safety. When undertaking any insulation installation or rectification, they should demand approved downlight covers around any exposed high temperature halogen downlights.

Isolite is an Australian-made solution that can be quickly fitted by any handy or trades person and it does not require electrical disconnection. Isolite also allows you to have effective insulation!
