The Waterproof Man
Balcony, Planters, Balconies
Balconies take a lot of punishment. Between driving rain and extremes of temperature they can be susceptible to failure if not designed and constructed with care. That is why we use tough flexible rubber membranes capable of handling thermal movement.
Besides the membrane there are other considerations which will affect the trouble free performance of the balcony. We have all seen unsightly white staining of tile grout lines and cracking and staining of rendered fascias. These are avoidable problems which occur far too regularly.
Likewise water leaks associated with cracks in rendered blueboard walls and balustrades can be directed harmlessly onto the membrane instead of bypassing into the lounge.
However the most annoying failures are caused by the tradesmen who drill through a perfectly waterproofed balcony in order to install a balustrade.
With foresight all these issues can be avoided.
