When two brothers go to war and only one comes home - the tragedy of war is reinforced at a deeply personal level when a family member brings in medals and photographs belonging to both her father and his brother.
Framing as a pair, we showed their respective service histories - the older of the two served at Gallipolli while both served on the Western Front. The younger brother was killed in his first battle at Bullecourt, France. Replica medals were supplied for the brother who was killed, along with a miniature death plaque ("the dead man's penny").
Sympathetically framing to be hung together when they both show a different military history requires skilful design. The medals were cleaned, lacquered and then court mounted. The photographs were reproduced. The calligraphy explains the period of time on the Western Front and the brass plates correctly identify the rank of the servicemen. A fitting tribute to gallant Anzacs.
Postscript - our client's father further served in WWII in a non military capacity and was awarded the Civiilian Service Medal 1939 - 1945
