Josie has been working with carers for over four years and has helped clients understand the diagnosis of the person they are caring for including people with dementia, alzheimers, schizophrenia, autism, ADHD and borderline personality disorder. Within the aged care sector there is a strong need to help staff understand the diagnosis of the people they are caring for and help manage the behaviour to lessen the abusive behaviour, especially people with, dementia and alzheimers. Once staff understand the diagnosis and how to manage the people who have the disorder, the relationship toward them will change and their perspective toward the diagnosis improves. There are many people entering the aged care sector who may learn how to care for people with a disorder but not learn how to manage them or about the disorder. Therefore to become a better aged care worker, more is required than what is often delivered in training programs. Please contact Josie to find out more about how she can help the community feel confident in placing the people they love in a home of the aged care sector.

Counselling for Carers

Caring for a person with a mental illness or a disability is an important role that can challenge your emotional, physical, spiritual and financial wellbeing. Counselling can help you improve your role as carer, receive information about the diagnosis and external services and give you space to care for yourself.
