A new service we offer is behavioural competence screening. It tells us about the underlying characteristics of a person that directly impact how they function and perform. They are the characteristics and tendencies that people typically don’t show at interview and which most candidate assessment methods don’t consider and can’t measure. They are the key factors that determine how well a person can respond to the demands of the role and whether or not the candidate is more likely or not to: • attitude to taking/avoiding risk • identifying/monitoring/controlling hazards • ability to recover from adverse experiences • attitude to compliance/rule breaking • ability to maintain attention/vigilance • reprioritising work due unplanned change • attention to detail/short term memory • perceiving/understanding information and projecting consequence • recognising, adapting to and taking defensive action against emerging risks • recognising impact of fatigue on personal performance • avoiding complacency • emotional intelligence • aggression management • compassion for others
