History, Goals, Robert Durrant
Robert Durrant recently celebrated the 25-year milestone in his career as a business developer and marketing strategist. Today, he leads a growing team of multi-disciplinary business analysts, advisors and also leaders across his group of companies.
“People are the most valuable asset in any organisation,” says Robert. “Each and every employee in my businesses is multi-skilled and empowered to make decisions. This approach increases productivity and the quality of peoples’ work, while also helping insulate our financial performance when times are tough.
“Empowerment, knowledge and workplace skills are the keys to ensuring that your team is happy and that each member feels valued,” says Robert. “Most importantly they need to know that their role within the organisation is as important as any manager’s position.”
It is a philosophy Robert Durrant has acquired through reflection on his own work experiences and sources of satisfaction. “Much of what I know in business comes from hands-on practical experience. I have regularly challenged myself to identify problems and then break them down into causes for resolution one step at a time. There is huge satisfaction in getting clear and concise about your vision and what you want to achieve, then focusing on the implementation, measurement and review of solutions,” says Robert.
Robert Durrant’s business career began in North Queensland, self-employed owning and operating a number of entities. Leading the Queensland Chamber of Commerce, and contributing as a part-time presenter on television business and sports programs. Robert moved to Victoria in 1989 to work in national account management roles with technology giant General Electric and then IRI. Today, his operates under the Retail E-vironment group, operating in a diverse range of sectors with a mix of vertically and horizontally integrated clients.
Looking to the next 25 years, Robert says his future in business lies in creating value through the use of technologies for leading edge service delivery to customers. “Related to this, we will drive the advance of social media as a means to strengthen branding and real-time interaction with consumers,” he says. “My organisation will keep bringing in younger people to ensure our business models are current and adaptive. In particular Gen Y and Millennials will lead us into areas we have never thought of yet.”
Robert Durrant holds a degree in business management & marketing from the Queensland University. He is an active member of the Australian Institute of Management, and holds a number of industry specific accreditation's and board level management advisory roles.
