Media Release: New energy service to help Victorians avoid a price shock this winter
Published on Monday, 16 April 2012
Australia’s newest energy broker, Energy Quotes, is pleased to announce Victorians have access to a new service that could save them hundreds of dollars on power and gas bills this winter with peace of mind they are getting a better deal that will ultimately put money back in their pockets.
Energy Quotes Director David Perry said, “Energy Quotes is officially open for business with the simple goal of providing consumers with a better offer from a range of energy providers with integrity.”
“Energy Quotes pledges to provide customers with an open and honest assessment of their current energy bill, and will not recommend they change retailers unless they are saving money.”
Recommendations are based on information given at the time of the quote, and may be subject to an increase in government or energy supply charges.
According to David, April is a good time to compare the range of competitive discounts available on electricity and gas before people start to crank up their heating and energy usage in winter.
“We recommend starting the process now as it can take 30-90 days to change to a lower cost provider, or Victoria’s cold weather might not be the only shock to the system this winter.
“Victorians were hit with a price increase of more than 10 per cent on power in January and the carbon tax is estimated to add another 10 per cent to costs from 1 July,” said David.
Higher energy bills can put a burden on family and business finances so it’s worth shopping around.
“For example, an average household in the western suburbs of Melbourne, on a quarterly power bill of $300 with a default retailer, could save about $200 a year by switching to a cheaper provider.”
The catch for many is that understanding the bill and comparing energy prices can be confusing and consumers need to make sure they are comparing like for like.
“An energy broker like Energy Quotes can help customers navigate their way through the different rates and discounts with a fast and easy service via phone or internet,” said David.
“Our free service compares a customer’s rates and discounts with a number of energy providers based on their area, current retailer and how much energy they use.
“A team of Melbourne-based consultants who understand the energy sector are ready to provide customers with a quote to help them choose a better deal and pay less,” he said.
