Damage and disturbance of asbestos materials is often not recognised in the built environment. Whether maintenance and trades contractors disturb asbestos themselves, or encounter previously damaged materials, workers and the public can be exposed to airborne asbestos fibres through a lack of awareness and unsafe work practices.
The photograph above shows Asbestos Millboard insulation (white) in the cover to electrics of an air conditioning unit.
Most trades are likely to encounter ACMs during their everyday works, particularly builders, plumbers, electricians, carpenters and bathroom & kitchen fitters. Anyone working in the building trade, those in charge of property maintenance or in control of a workplace and OHS representatives need to be aware of the uses and likely locations of ACMs.
We offer a range of tailored training solutions, delivered at the workplace or a local centre. Sessions include trade specific Safe Work Practices, Identification and Risk Assessment of ACMs. BENSS’ Trainers have many years’ experience as asbestos assessors with international consultancies in Australia and the UK and are post graduates in relevant sciences.
