Garage Door Springs
Garage Doors, Garage Door Repair, Sectional Doors
Your garage door is extremely heavy and dangerous. Most of the weight is counter-balanced by your garage door springs.
All garage doors have springs; some are visible (panel doors and tilt doors) and some are hidden (roller doors). This is why a well-tensioned garage door is easy to operate manually; because the springs do roughly all the lifting. When your tension is low or your spring breaks, trying to lift a garage door weighing up to 150kgs without the help of the springs can cause serious personal injury, and should only be ever attempted by a trained technician.
Garage door springs are available in 2 different types:
• Extension springs: These springs are used on tilt doors. They can be found on the side of the door set to power arms.
• Torsion springs: These springs are used on panel doors. They can be found on the torsion bar which is located above the top panel of a panel door or at the rear of the horizontal tracks.
