The following is an excerpt from the Roaming Free Tune Book:

Glen Tilt

Glen Tilt is on the Blair Atholl Estate in Perthshire, Scotland. As a tourist, Mary, Queen of Scots visited it in 1564 whilst attending a deer drive there. In the present day, it is possible to walk through Glen Tilt. The distance is 10 miles the long way and 6 miles the shorter way. The tune is played very brightly and has been described by some people as akin to an alarm call wakeup for a positive start to the day! Fiddle starts for the first two times through the tune and then guitar comes in. The 'ringing' E string technique, used in the second bar of the tune, is called upon to provide some variety in the tune's decoration. Grace notes are also used in a similar fashion (Refer bar 1 and bar 3 as examples). When listening to the tune being played, notice that the triplets in bar 9 are sometimes played as two quavers. The same technique can be applied to other bars which include triplets.
