Baby massage has been practiced for centuries in other cultures, with touch being the medium through which parent and baby initially communicate. The benefits of baby massage are numerous and include: improved sleep patterns and decreased fussiness; relief from the discomfort associated with constipation, wind and colic; the strengthening of the bonding process between you and your baby; fostering a trusting and respectful relationship; increased parental confidence and self esteem, helping to reduce feelings of anxiety; allows fathers to develop a deeper bond with their child through special one on one time; improved weight gain and earlier discharge in premature babies. Baby massage is particularly helpful if the bonding process has been delayed by: post natal depression, premature birth, caesarean, adoption or medical problems.

Baby massage class details: three one-hour weekly sessions conducted on a Tuesday 2-3p by a local mother and accredited instructor, Kellie Cook. Kellie demonstrates the massage routine on a doll while parents massage their own baby. Each session typically covers a different part of the body. A wind and colic routine is also included. Massage oil and course notes are included in cost. Life size dolls are provided if your baby is sleeping or feeding. There is a maximum of 4 babies per course Discussion topics include: the use of oils the best time to massage engagement & disengagement cues and how to adapt the massage routine for the growing baby Gift vouchers are available and make a unique gift for a family member, friend or colleague.
