Iconic Melbourne fashion designer, Gwendolynne Burkin offers an alternative for new romantics who, like her, enjoy a down to earth luxury experience and are “elegant individuals, that want something different.”
In 2004 Gwendolynne refocused her ready-to-wear fashion business to create contemporary bridal prompted by global manufacturing. Her style was always ethereal and after constant requests for wedding dresses, it was a natural progression.
“I wanted to slow down the pace of making fashion and contribute something of meaning, longevity and quality. I was delighted by how much I loved making wedding dresses. It‘s rewarding to share that magical feeling of wearing beautiful clothing. I want my clients to enjoy the beauty, fun and freedom of dress ups as much as I do”
In her Fitzroy studio, Gwendolynne works alongside a French trained “Luneville” beader, controlling the stunningly detailed pieces down to the very last hand detail. Her creative quest is a constant exploration of beauty and detail across the ages. Perpetually inspired by architectural elements spanning from Frank Lloyd Wright, Art Deco and Gothic influences.
Gwendolynne’s signature style boasts fine, fluid silks and tulles combined with exclusively designed embellishments in effortless, comfortable, soft feminine, silhouettes that clients travel a cross the world to experience. The designs embrace subtle tones of blush, rose and latte mixed with shades of oyster and crisp ivory. The final effect has a European twist.
In her artistic and personal life; she says, “Trends aren’t my thing. I like my clients to feel they are unique and can wear clothes that suit and flatter their distinctive personalities and style. I design for people who see their wardrobe as a collection or an acquisition of bequests.
