Dr. James Lucas is an accredited mental health social worker who provides both general and more specialised counselling services to adults and young people. Counselling involves working with you to know your story, uncover your strengths, develop skills to face life’s challenges, nurture your hope, and to find greater meaning and purpose in life.

A 60-minute consultation for individual counselling costs $180.
NOTE: As of January 2016, the Australian Association of Social Workers' recommended fee for a standard 50-minute consultation is $240.

You may be eligible to receive partially or fully subsidised counselling services with Dr. James Lucas through the following programs:
Medicare rebates are available with a valid GP referral and Mental Health Treatment Plan under the Better Access to Mental Health program.
Access To Allied Psychological Services (ATAPS)
If you are on a low income, you can see your GP for a referral to Dr. James Lucas through the ATAPS program. The ATAPS program is part of the North Western Melbourne Primary Health Network and more information can found HERE.
Transport Accident Commission (TAC)
You are able to seek counselling with Dr. James Lucas through the TAC. Contact your TAC coordinator for pre-approval.
National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS)
Dr. James Lucas has submitted a provider application to offer therapeutic services through the NDIS. Stay tuned for more information!
Dr. James Lucas has sumbitted a provider application to Carers Victoria as a contracted counsellor. Stay tuned for more information!
If you are unable to attend your scheduled appointment, please contact us as soon as possible and we can reschedule your appointment to another time. This is so we have sufficient notice to offer the appointment time to other clients seeking counselling support.
If you cancel your scheduled appointment with less than 24 hours notice, or do not attend, you will be charged 50% of the full fee for the session. Please note that any Medicare rebates are not able to be claimed for cancelled or unattended appointments.
