Today is Day One for business at 26 Canterbury Road, Braeside – the new premises of Kinder & Co.

It’s a cause for celebration in many ways. This custom design and build project has taken just over 2 years to come to fruition for Neil and Christine Kinder, beginning in May 2012 when the first land survey plans were completed. 14 months ago the contract of sale was completed, followed by numerous council permit applications that had to be negotiated before the construction could be begin.

“We needed to make sure that our new premises would support Kinder & Co’s continuing business growth” said Neil. “Our block size is considerably bigger so this gave us the ability to think about making improvements to the way that we worked, and deliver a service to our customers that they really needed and wanted in order to improve their business. Because we now have more shelf space, we can start to offer some of our valued regular customers the option to hold specific stock items for them. Because we have this capacity, we can be more proactive and assist in planning their inventory which would cut down on despatch times to site of some of their unique manufactured conveyor and bulk materials handling parts.”

One of the other features of the new premises is a purpose-built training room. Kinder & Co have already been approached by the Institute of Quarrying Australia (IQA) to host several of their continuing professional development courses at the new Canterbury Road facility, making the most of the hands-on demonstration of conveyor parts installation and best practice maintenance.

“We have been so thrilled with how the physical move has gone” added Christine. “It has meant that we have all needed to work together as a team, and problem-solve a few minor hiccups along the way – but I’m very pleased to say that it is ‘business as usual’ at 26 Canterbury Road today.”

If you have a bulk materials handling enquiry or would like some specific replacement items added to our stock shelf items, please contact one of our sales engineer’s on 03 9587 9244, or email [email protected]

Protecting staff against the hazards of dust and spillage

Dust and spillage continue to be an area of concern and employers must be vigilant to protect staff from the hazards of ineffective conveyor management. The critical component in any conveyor transfer point is an effective sealing system. The seal should be located where the material is being loaded and continue to where it becomes stable. This is the last position to effectively control spillage and dust.

How to Select the Correct Belt Cleaner for your Application

Carry back is the leading cause of inefficiencies in conveyor systems, regardless of the length of the conveyor line or rate of belt speed. The manual task of removing carry back is both resource and equipment intensive. It also has the potential to create very serious personal safety hazards, as well as causing excessive unscheduled production downtime.

Technical Checklist – 10 Ways to Maintain your Conveyor Belt

A good conveyor preventive maintenance plan doesn’t need to be expensive or time consuming. A daily floor walk is one of the best techniques for checking a system’s health. Small, easily observed clues such as oil drippings, belt shavings, or unusual noise can indicate a worn or failing part. To ensure you’re not overlooking these signs, keep your operation clean. Alternate conveyor maintenance technicians on a quarterly rotation to ensure fresh eyes.
