Women in the Church - By Rev. Harry Reah A Biblical and Historical Study from the beginning of the Church to 400A.D., with implications for the 21st Century Church Foreword to "Women in the Church" The Church has long needed a book like this on women’s leadership in the church from a historical perspective with researched Biblical background. Harry Reah, former missionary, pastor and Australian citizen, has researched the topic of women’s leadership roles in the church from Saint Paul’s time, through the early church period, taking an in-depth look at the different Bible texts associated with this topic. For those like me, who have served as a full time Christian leader for forty years, it is refreshing to have this solid Biblical support for women’s leadership roles in the Church of Jesus Christ. This book fills a gap in Christian literature on this topic ‘Women in the Church’. It will help pastors (male or female) and lay people to carefully and prayerfully consider their own position on this vital topic for the 21st century Church. Harry Reah has had a fruitful ministry as a missionary, establishing a Church in Papua New Guinea that now numbers over 100,000. He has pastored Apostolic Churches in Australia and has a wide pastoral experience. He is one of my valued mentors, giving insightful input into my life as a Christian leader, who after more than 18 years of missionary service, has pioneered three new Christian ministries. We, women in ministry, need those like Harry Reah who, with a strong Biblical background, supports and encourages us as we move out into God’s appointed ministries for us. For all such women this book will be a great encouragement. It coincides with the publication of ‘Junia, the Apostle’ by Richard Bauckham, Professor of New Testament Studies at St Andrew’s University Scotland. This research shows that Junias referred to in Romans 16:7 was actually a woman called Junia, and Paul acknowledges her as “a prominent apostle”. The Biblical battle is over regarding women’s leadership roles in the Church. Now it only remains for the whole Church to accept the evidence and give women their God-ordained place in the Church of Jesus Christ. June Sutton, M.A., M.R.E., L.Th., T.P.T.C., A.T.C.L.
