Jason Wood, Liberal Candidate for La Trobe, today announced a Federal Coalition government would provide $50,000 for new lighting at Olinda Reserve, to support a range of local sporting clubs and community groups.
“In 2007 local football, netball and cricket clubs formed the Hilltop Recreation Association,” Mr Wood said.
“They have worked hard over the last six years to raise almost $1.7m for a new community facility, with funding for lighting being an outstanding issue. My announcement of $50,000 in funding for new lights is one of the last pieces in the puzzle to develop a real sporting icon for local residents and visitors.”
Mr Wood said the current state of lighting at Olinda Reserve was almost unusable for evening training sessions. The Reserve is also a check in point for the annual Melbourne Oxfam Trail walker.
“I am delighted that this announcement will benefit not only a range of sporting teams but also provide a better experience for participants who use the Reserve as a check-in point on the Oxfam walk.
“Currently support crews and organisers bring in their own generators to ensure adequate lighting. The Coalition commitment to a lighting upgrade will make this check-in point more accessible.”
“I have worked closely with the Hilltop Recreation Association since its inception in 2007. Today’s announcement further demonstrates our support for local communities.”
Only Jason Wood as part of the Coalition team is dedicated to getting Australia back on track and building stronger communities in La Trobe.
