This is the tensioning of strings to a particular pitch that is stable for the piano. The internationally recognised standard for a piano is A440 (Concert Pitch). Some older pianos are not stable at concert pitch, therefore a lower pitch may need to be set in order to achieve a stable tune across the piano. How often a piano should be tuned is depended upon its work load. As a minimum a Piano should be tuned once every 12 months.
