Osteopaths use hands on techniques to provide symptom relief for your musculoskeletal pain. As an osteopath, we recognise your body’s structure and function are interrelated so we adopt a holistic approach in assessing and addressing your pain. The unique aspect about Osteopathy is that we look beyond the site of your pain to the surrounding joints and muscles that connect to or surround the problem area. For example, if you presented with right knee pain, not only would we look at your right knee, we also look at your left knee, your lower back, pelvic joints, both hips, ankles and your feet. We not only treat your symptoms but we investigate to find and treat the cause of your pain. Education is very important in how to best manage your pain in the short term and long term. A thorough and effective management plan in the short term may prevent the pain from returning in the future. Osteopaths use a number of techniques ranging from soft tissue massage, joint articulation and/or manipulation to gentle stretching. We provide you with appropriate stretches and strengthening exercises as well as advice on your daily activities including postural advice, sleep position, pillow positioning, functional movements.
