Portrait photography requires more than just the ability to point a camera at a face.
You need to learn to analyse the shape of a face so that you can pick a direction for your shot plus a direction for your light to get the best image of that face.
You also need to pick the right lens. Different lenses will change the proportions of a person's face. You need to know what lens to use for what person.
Shooting people also requires people skills. It isn't as bad as wrangling cats, but it can certainly get tricky if you don't have a few people skills. Learn to deal with people who aren't models to get the best out of them and make the portrait experience comfortable.
