Hypnosis was deregulated in South Australia on 1st July 2010. For the general public, this means that great care needs to be taken in selecting a practitioner of hypnosis. Anyone can now set up a shingle and claim that s/he is a hypnotist/hypnotherapist. Hypnosis is a powerful tool - in the hands of untrained people, there is a great risk of harm. It is wise to make sure that the person consulted is qualified to treat the presenting problem without hypnosis as well as with hypnosis. The South Australian Society of Hypnosis (SASH) only trains registered health care professionals, including dentists, doctors, midwives, nurses, physiotherapists, psychologists and social workers.
The good news about deregulation is that SASH can now train registered health care professionals in addition to doctors, dentists and psychologists. For information about our training course, please visit the SASH website.
