SMS Marketing – What is it?
SMS marketing is a relatively new technology mainly used by Telcos to market new products and services to their customers. Normally only Telcos and BIG COMPANIES have access to this kind of technology – you have probably seen their ads on TV, you know the ones where they tell you to send a “keyword” to a mobile phone number. Once you have sent your text they can then send you follow up marketing SMS to you whenever they like!
How SMS Marketing works!
Similar to email marketing but more effective! You build a list of subscribers using a “keyword” messaged to a particular mobile response number. As people text the keyword to the mobile number they are automatically subscribed to a list (just like an autoresponder) they get an “autoreply” and can then be SMS marketed to from that point on.
Why is SMS Marketing better?
Only 1 -2 billion people are using the internet from a laptop or PC but there are almost 4 billion people using mobile phones – this is a massive untapped marketing platform only just in it’s infancy. If we look at statistics for other forms of advertising and compare them to SMS Marketing (Also known as relationship marketing) the figures speak for themselves, let’s take a look:
1. TV – Generates about a 5% response .
2. Radio – Generates about a 6% .
3. Email – Generates about 12 – 15 % .
