An Accredited Exercise Physiologist (AEP) will work with you to apply guiding principles in the areas of overload, adaptation, progression, specificity, recovery, over-training, de-training and individual responsiveness to help you to get the results you want and need. How exercise works? When you increase your effort a little more than normal this is called an overload. Your body will respond by improving flexibility, strength and/or aerobic adaptation improving your condition. AEPs and allied health professionals have extensive knowledge, skills and experience in delivering safe and effective clinical exercise programs. AEPs also assist patients with changing unhealthy risk factors, such as inactivity, to prevent the onset of chronic disease. Exercise physiologis consult with your GP and/or physiotherapist in order to provide care after the acute stages of treatment to further correct the problem. They help manage and control factors of chronic diseases: Diabetes type 1 and 2 Respiratory diseases Weight Management Hypertension Osteoporosis Falls and injury Female sports performance They have active rehabilitation programs for return to: Work Sport Daily life They have movement adequacy programs to prevent falls and injury: Flexabily Balance Reaction Rhythmic Coordination Muscular strength They clinically evaluate each individual attributing to: Personal Goals Body composition assessment Posture assessment Flexibility assessment Muscle tightness assessment Metabolic assessment Cardiopulmonary assessment Spirometry assessment Performance assessment AEPs provide programs under the following funding: Workcover Authority (WA) Department of Veteran’s Affairs (DVA) Medicare Chronic Disease Management Plan (CDM) Enhanced Primary Care (EPC) Transport Accident Commission (TAC) Motor Accident Insurance Commission (MAIC) Private Health Fund Rebates All Exercise Physiologists conducting services are accreditated by ESSA to deliver exercise services which are mainly carried out in our head centre but are also offered in the community including home visits, nursing homes and senior citizen centres.
