Project partnering with James Cook University, CSIRO and Conrad Gargett Riddel architects to establish the Australian Tropical Science Innovation Precinct at James Cook University. The vision is for the ATSIP facility to become the Australian Headquarters for research and underpinning the sustainable use of natural resources in the tropics. The main ATSIP building is a purpose built world-class research facility for academic studies dedicated to tropical sciences. The facility includes administration, collaborative meeting rooms and areas, open office spaces, and PC2 and QC3 accredited laboratories. The ATSIP Support facilities is located opposite the ATSIP main building. The ATSIP Support facilities provides an area to conduct controlled fieldwork. The support facilities incorporate warehousing, minor workshops, outdoor experimental areas, climate controlled structures including Greenhouses and Shade Structures. Alternative Solutions The main ATSIP building included Alternative Fire Engineered Solutions assessed against the Performance Requirements in the Building Code of Australia and International Fire Engineering Guidelines to reduce Fire Resistance Levels, Atrium Construction, non-fire isolated stairway and extended exit travel from the upper storey plantroom.
