A 26 year old male from Cashmere recently charged with unlicensed driving for the 3rd time was warned by the court that he risks jail if he drives in the period of disqualfication. Pine Rivers Traffic Lawyer Jamie Whitehead stated outside of court last week that the male, who had never held a licence was at serious risk of a jail term after the Presiding Magistrate submitted that there can be no excuse for such ignorance of the law. "My client felt that a drive to the local shops some 2 km's away would not hurt anyone. My client doesn't believe that he is in the same league as drink drivers or people who commit serious traffic offences. The problem is however that unlicensed driving places the community at risk because the driver has never been fully recognised as being competent to drive a car." The male was further disqualified from driving for a period of 6 months for the offence of uinlicensed driving.
