Order of Lion Rampant was formed in the early 1990's as a Tournament
Society with a focus on structured and trained, but not choreographed,
Medieval Combat. Whilst our period has advanced to encompass the end of
the Fourteenth century and the membership of the group has changed with
time our commitment to quality in performance and in historical
interpretation has not changed.
In the past Lion Rampant has re created gun crews, a small 'Free
Company' of foot soldiers and archers, jousting and other mounted
combat, knighting Ceremonies, Trials by Ordeal, Latin Mass and even
staged (to our knowledge), the first Allegorical Tournament since the
end of the Middle Ages.
Most recently some of our members have embarked on some experimental
archeology on their search for the ideals of feminine beauty in the
middle ages and come up with a display on the creation and application
of an exceptional range of beauty products for both the medieval woman
and man! We have performed at Brisbane Medieval Fair, The Abbey
Tournament, "History Alive" and a multitude of Private functions
including Jupiter’s and Treasury Casinos and St Johns Cathedral (the
worlds 'newest' Gothic Cathedral). We have also partnered with the
Queensland Museum and The Abbey Museum to stage a major museum
We have Beautiful Ladies in all manner of finery and some of the
finest Gentlemen of Coat Armour to be found. Lion Rampant has a close
working relationship with other local and interstate medieval groups and
our wonderful musician friends Wayward.
In recent years we have even expanded into a secondary
impressions as our early medieval alter-eg Hastae Amorica. With this as a
secondary focus it has opened a new range of performance possibilities
to us, both public and private.
Rampant is always welcoming new people and new ideas into the group. We
are proud to be a leader in historical re-enactment in Australia and
have received high praise from our international peers. We continue to
move forward and apply our innovative approach to give our members and
the public the experience of the medieval tournament and Pas D'Armes .
