Writing can be a lonely occupation. In
the privacy of your study, perched precariously between all of the other
demands in your life, it's easy to lose heart, or faith, in yourself or
your work. Our goal in providing a uniquely-adaptable and personal
mentorship program is to support you in finding ways to improve your
writing that are particular to your needs as writer.
A skilful mentor who
respects your intentions can see things you cannot and help you to
achieve the full potential of your work. It can be a challenging but
truly exhilarating working relationship during which you make far more
rapid progress than you would if you stumbled along by yourself.
Your mentor will meet with
you - either in person or by phone - each fortnight. In between meetings
the mentor will read your work and prepare feedback on up to 5000 words
each cycle (though more can be negotiated). The sessions are tailored
to suit the needs and styles of both of us, with the emphasis on having
realistic goals that can be met in the period of the mentorship.
A mentorship is more
personal and more focused than a university courses or even writers
centre masterclass, where the feedback you receive will not be as
in-depth, personal, or sustained. A mentorship is about you, your work,
and your dreams as writer.
