VALUES THAT ARE VALUED BY EMPLOYERS The following values are desirable for personal success: Drive: A desire to get things done successfully and completely. People learn how to set goals. Motivation: Enthusiasm and willingness to ask questions. A person must be willing to accept challenges and do "a little bit extra" to gain success. Courtesy and empathy: The desire and ability to understand and accommodate another's feelings. Chemistry: A business is often looking for a "team player,” a person who "gets along with others,” wears a smile, doesn't get rattled and is confident. Energy: Someone who gives the extra effort in both little things and important matters. Determination: Someone who does not back off when a problem or task gets tough or difficult. Confidence: A person who radiates a "can do" attitude. Reliability: A person who completes the task without being constantly reminded and who can be depended upon to do the job properly. Honesty/ Integrity: Takes responsibility for their actions, both good and bad, and the consequences. Pride: Paying attention to details and doing the job to the best of their ability -- and being proud of it. Attention to quality. Dedication: Being committed to seeing the project or goal through to completion. Working within time frame or period given. Analytical Skills: The ability to weigh the pros and cons and not jump to the first solution. Compare the short-term and long-term benefits of a solution against its possible negatives. HOW DO YOU RATE YOURSELF WHEN YOU GO THROUGH THESE VALUES? And...how would employerS rate you? Just keep in mind that they are the people who pay you and you want to be of value to them. As reported by employers and research looking at in success at the work place, a person's ability to get along with others is also a key element to success on the job.
