“I want to come back Yesterday!” was the comment made by local Cooloola Cove, Vietnam Veteran Allan Friske, when asked if he was enjoying the Tribute Concert to Wives, Partners, Widows and Widowers of Veterans of all conflicts, held at Standown Park , Goomboorian on Saturday 14 May. That summed up the sentiments of approximately 300 veterans, families and friends who attended the first concert of its kind, where so many Veteran community members gathered to honour and recognise the support of their loved ones.
Australian champion Bush Poet, Gary Fogarty of Millmerran had the crowd in stitchers with his hilarious bush Verses while later, his talented daughter Kelly sang. Both Gary and Kelly have been selected to go to the World Arts Championships in Hollywood in July so we were able to support Kelly’s fundraising efforts with $670 from the profit on breakfast held the morning following the concert.
The beneficiaries of the concert were the Partners Of Veterans (PVA) who raised almost $3000. State President of PVA, Bronwyn Fullick said ”we are just overwhelmed at the support we have had and the feeling of friendship and support here has been amazing, we are looking forward to next years concert.”
Legacy, Vietnam Veteran’s Assoc. State Branch and Men’s Health Peer Education along with the PVA, set up booths to provide information and awareness of their organisation on the day.
Bookings for next years concert have been coming in fast as they know we have limited powered sites.
