From the moment Kate heard of the term 'Speech Pathologist' she knew that was the career for her. Kate grew up in Gladstone in Central Queensland and moved to Townsville to attend university.
While studying for her Bachelor of Speech Pathology degree at James Cook University, Kate received a scholarship from SARRAH for her commitment to rural and regional health services. Since graduation, Kate has been providing speech pathology services to children and adults with a broad range of disabilities.

Kate has a passion for ensuring that every person can communicate autonomously - that is, they are able to communicate what they want to say whenever they want to say it. This has led Kate to explore and develop her understanding of a range of Augmentative and Alternative Communication devices. Kate is a committee member for AGOSCI - a group that focuses on enhancing the participation of people with complex communication needs.

Kate has a special interest in mealtime management for children; she is trained in a variety of methods for addressing both oral motor difficulties and sensory aversions including the 'SOS Approach to Feeding'. Kate is also Hanen certified to provide the 'More Than Words' parent education program for parents of children with Autism or Social Communication Difficulties. She is also qualified to provide the 'PROMPT' technique to restructure the muscles used for speech production.

Kate is a Certified Practicing Speech Pathologist member of Speech Pathology Australia, and has been recognised as a leader in her field by the International Association of Healthcare Professionals.
