ISO 20000 provides a model for establishing, implementing, operating, monitoring, reviewing, maintaining and improving an Information Technology Services Management System (ITSMS). The design and implementation of an organisation’s ITSMS is influenced by the customer’s needs and objectives, service requirements, the processes employed and the size and structure of the organisation. These and their supporting systems are expected to change over time. It is expected that an ITSMS implementation will be scaled in accordance with the needs of the organisation, for example, a simple situation requires a simple ITSMS solution. ISO 22000 covers all types of Information Technology organisations (e.g. commercial enterprises, government agencies, non-profit organisations) and specifies the requirements for establishing, implementing, operating, monitoring, reviewing, maintaining and improving documented ITSMS within the context of an organisation’s overall business risks. It specifies requirements for the implementation of information technology service procedures customised to the needs of individual organisations or parts thereof. The ITSMS is designed to ensure the selection of adequate and proportionate service measures, levels of service and appropriate controls that ensure your organisation will provide the highest levels of service and give confidence to interested parties. Demonstrating that a company has an ITSMS culture by ensuring their staff are working within the correct information technology service environment and their organisation is complying to information technology standards is an important management challenge. ISO 20000 certification is designed to allow managers to undertake this task in a timely manner based on factual information.
