The QLD Police Annual Statistical Review was released in April 2011 and while some may be celebrating that these crime figures suggest that crime is on the decrease, the news isn’t so positive for residents in north Brisbane. On the whole, Queensland’s crime level has decreased by 1%…however crime has risen by up to 5% in the northern suburbs. The QLD Police Service Annual Statistical Review, published by the QLD Police, provides an overview of crime statistics for the state. In the 09/10 financial year, there were 4220 reported “Offences Against the Person” (such as assaults) in the ‘Metropolitan North Region’. In the same year, the number of reported “Offences Against Property” (such as burglary and vandalism) was 32,921. These are worrying numbers, and these are only the crimes actually reported to police. It doesn’t include all the crime that goes unreported through lack of confidence that anything will be done about it. NSR have committed to helping reduce these figures by putting more security guards on the streets of north Brisbane. With seven vehicles already patrolling the streets, from the Brisbane River up to Caboolture, security vehicles are now available to assist customers in such suburbs as Mitchelton, Grovely, Gaythorne, Keperra, Arana Hills, Everton Hills, Everton Park, Ferny Hills and Ferny Grove. This means we can help the police detect and deter issues, and liaise with the police and our customers to help manage criminal activity. There are many basic precautions that can be taken to help decrease the chances of becoming a victim to crime. Common sense plays a large part. It’s important to be aware, vigilant and cautious. Crime can happen to everyone, at any time.
