Kylie's Professional Make Up
Goddess for a day
Make-up artist Kylie Eustace shares the inside goss on this season’s hottest race day beauty trends and her new mineral make-up range, Goddess.
How did you develop the Kylie’s Professional Mineral Goddess make-up range? I have spent many years researching ingredients and experimenting with make-up products. A lot of searching and refining is involved to produce formulas that give true professional qualities without any unwanted reactions. I found manufacturers who were happy to work with what I wanted and needed.
The consistency, durability and photographic finish of my products were absolutely essential. Samples were sent back and forth until everything was just right. Being a person who loves colour and a hands-on approach, making foundation colours is what started Kylie’s Professional off. I use my personal clients as my guide to what colours I need. I will mix pigments together, trial them, adjust them, then I send the colour recipe to my manufacturer. Once I have approved the sample it is added to my collection.
What are the benefits of mineral make-up?
There are many benefits of minerals yet not all minerals and mineral make-up formulas on the market are created equally. I sometimes say to people when they ask, ‘‘Not every cake is the same’’. The minerals in this range are the highest quality available. They are long lasting, have strong pigments and are soothing and healing. They are great on every skin type, allowing skin to breathe, and have a high water resistance and natural SPF qualities.
What is your favourite product from the range?
That is a tough question but I would have to say the mineral foundation, which is applied with a Kabuki brush. It gives such a flawless finish.
How important is make-up in complementing a race day outfit? Very. Wearing make-up that enhances your outfit is always the way to go. It’s a fantastic way to tie your whole look together. For example, if you choose a pink frock, wear a bold fuschia lipstick or gloss to bring lips to life. If wearing white or jewel-toned colours like emerald green, add some gold eye shadow to the corners of eyes to really set off the outfit.
What colours are hot this season?
A lot of bright colours are hot right now – blues, pinks, oranges, turquoise, green, purples, shimmery white, golds, earthy naturals, as well as dark smouldering shades. Natural lips as well as deep berry and red lips are definitely popular this season too.
Which complexions will they suit best?
Fairer complexions will generally look nice with softer shades but can go for bright or deeper colours if applied in a subtle way. Deeper
complexions can go for brighter, bolder colours. And everyone can wear naturals. Bring out your eyes using contrasting and opposite colours on the colour wheel. For example, blue eyes can wear oranges, peaches, bronzes and golds. While brown eyes will look great with blues, greens, purples and smoky-coloured eye shadows. For an exotic touch on green eyes try pinks, plums, purples, oranges and browns.
Should make-up be applied in a certain order?
From a make-up artist’s point of view this can vary at times but generally I like to work in this order – base, concealer, foundation, setting powder, and face contouring, followed by eye shadow, liner, mascara and eyebrows. Then blush and lipstick to finish.
Any tips for getting make-up to go the distance?
I recommend using a setting powder to help foundation last all day. Eye and lip primers are also good ways to prep skin before applying make-up and consequently helping to hold colour for longer after make-up is applied. Another trick is to press eye shadow on to lids to build up the colour and then use brushes to blend it. Always apply two layers of lipstick.
What should women carry in their handbag at the races?
A lipstick or gloss for keeping pouts moist and awash with colour. And extra setting powder if they tend to have oily complexions or perspire. You can’t go wrong with a good old packet of tissues either!
Number one make-up tip of all time?
Always cleanse make-up off each night before going to bed.
