It is with great excitement that Lynne
Bradley announced that the new Artistic Directors of the Zen Zen Zo Performance
Company will be MICHAEL FUTCHER and HELEN HOWARD . Michael and Helen have worked for the past 25 years with all
the major Queensland theatre companies as directors, writers and actors,
winning a slew of awards between them.
They founded the renowned Matrix Theatre during this time, which has
created many visually and physically stunning works over the years and toured
widely. Michael was recently
awarded a Matilda Award for Best Director for the wonderful Grimm's Tales (QTC)
which played to packed houses in November last year. Helen has been working as an acting and dialogue coach in
film and television, including the recent Narnia film: The Voyage of the Dawn
Treader in which new Zen Zen Zo Patron, BILLE BROWN, featured as the dark
magician. Michael and Helen have had a long association with Zen Zen Zo dating
back to the first Brisbane Festival in 1996 in which both Zen Zen Zo and Matrix
were programmed alongside each other by John Kotzas, current CEO of QPAC.
Michael and Helen will take over the
running of the Zen Zen Zo Performance Company after a 6-month handover
period. From October, LYNNE
BRADLEY will give over the reigns of the Performance Company, but continue to
run the Training Centre (which includes the Internship, Adult Training Program,
and InSchools Programs) as the Executive Director, and will direct productions
for Zen Zen Zo from time to time.
Having dedicated leaders for each side of the company will allow us to
uphold our reputation for excellence and innovation, and enable a whole new era
of growth for Zen Zen Zo. Lynne,
Michael & Helen are very excited by the possibilities, and look forward to
dialoguing with you about the future...
