For the last 5 years I have received up to 5 calls a day from different SEO companies guaranteeing they can get my website a page 1 Google ranking. Really? It’s that simple. Strange then that Google actually states “No one can guarantee a #1 ranking on Google.” So how can these so called SEO Experts make these claims and guarantees? Mike Tekula from Unstuck Digital concedes, “Whenever there’s a knowledge gap between the people providing a service and the people buying it, you’ll find dishonest practices.” The best way to ensure this doesn’t happen to you is to educate yourself about SEO and follow the tips below. Read: The beginners guide to SEO Googles Webmaster Guidelines Ask questions (Google recommends): Can you show me examples of your previous work and share some success stories? Do you follow the Google Webmaster Guidelines? Do you offer any online marketing services or advice to complement your organic search business? What kind of results do you expect to see, and in what timeframe? How do you measure your success? What’s your experience in my industry? What’s your experience in my country/city? What are your most important SEO techniques? How long have you been in business? How can I expect to communicate with you? Will you share with me all the changes you make to my site, and provide detailed information about your recommendations and the reasoning behind them? If they can’t or won’t answer these questions or use technical jargon so you don’t understand, then simply don’t use them. You don’t want to run the risk of your site being penalised by dodgy SEO practices. Swoop Digital also recommends avoiding SEO Companies who: Guarantees ranking on obscure non-competitive keywords Request you allow links to their other clients on your site. Keyword rich site wide links in the footer of your site. Set up another web page that replicates content on your existing website on a sub domain that they own. Excessive reciprocal links and link exchanges using auto submit sites. What’s your SEO strategy? Is it succeeding?
