Dow Styrofoam Roofmate
Dow Thermax Light Duty
Hewlett-Packard’s new $120 million data centre located at Eastern Creek in Western Sydney is being built as part of the company’s US$1 billion renewal of its global services infrastructure.
The massive data centre (134,000m²) will support variable power and cooling facilities to help reduce power consumption and its carbon footprint.
Dow Styrofoam Roofmate 90mm has been used on the roof (exterior) to create a high-performance trafficable deck. Green Star Compliant, a non-porous cell structure and high compressive strength rating of Dow Styrofoam Roofmate provides a long term retained R-value of 3.2.
Dow Thermax Light Duty was specified after the successful retrofit of the Bureau of Metrology in Melbourne to reduce excessive heat gain from a suspended car park area.
It was also important during construction to ensure the thermal insulation was resistant to water ingress. Dow Thermax Light Duty is foil faced on both sides and this reduces the risk of moisture being absorbed into the foam.
Dow Thermax LD achieves an R2.0 rating and the white reflective foil faced finish will enhance the lighting of the area, minimising the need for additional electrical cabling and lighting, effectively reducing power consumption.
Contractors found both Dow Styrofoam Roofmate and Dow Thermax LD could be installed quickly using less labour than traditional bulk fibre products. Porous and not rigid enough bulk fibre options will find it very difficult to produce better aesthetic and long term retained r-values.
