Project: Doyles on the Beach Watson's Bay, NSW Liner: Glasbord PSI Smooth Application: Cool room refurbishment Wall and Ceiling Liner Panel Doyles on the Beach, located in Sydney’s swanky Watsons Bay has firmly established itself as an icon on the Sydney restaurant scene. Since first opening their doors in 1885, Doyles has become synonymous with fabulous fresh seafood and great service. Family owned and operated for over five generations, Doyles Restaurant still proudly sits on the original site, taking full advantage of the breathtaking views of beautiful Sydney Harbour. Behind the scenes, Doyles kitchen is a hive of activity. Feeding the hungry hordes certainly keeps the owners, the Doyle Family and their team on their toes. The adage ’the fresher the fish, the better the dish’ is one that is held true in this fine dining establishment. The expansive kitchen at Doyles boasts three separate cool rooms, keeping the seafood and ingredients at their best. The cool rooms were retrofitted in 1988 using expanded polystyrene insulation finished with a colourbond lining. Over the years the colourbond lining started showing signs of rust and began to flake, raising concerns over food and hygiene standards. If left to deteriorate further, voids in the colourbond lining would eventually allow moisture in the form of vapour drive to impregnate the insulation, permitting mould and bacteria to form and also reduce the retained effectiveness of the insulation by up to a staggering 94%. Crane Composites Glasbord frp wall and ceiling panels with its sanitary and durable finish provided the ideal solution. Available in 1.22m x 3.05m panels, allows two operators to quickly and easily install Glasbord directly over existing rusty steel panels and broken tiles, instantly re-invigorating tired rooms. On installing Glasbord, the first thing noticed was just how quickly the cool rooms were being transformed. Plus there was no unpleasant Polyester resin odour normally attributed with fibreglass. By using Sika’s odourless adhesive meant that Doyles on the Beach Restaurant could resume their operations quickly, whilst the high grab strength, permanently flexible adhesive continues to strengthen. With time Ben Doyle and his team will see the many benefits of Glasbord - being its excellent impact, abrasion, chemical and moisture resistance. Glasbord will not harbour mould, mildew or bacteria, and is easy to clean. Glasbord is commonly employed in the USA, Europe and Australia and is qualified to International and Australian Standards including: AS3837, AS1530, AS4674, BCA, HACCP, USDA and AQIS.
