Team Building Made Easy
Corporate Events, Corporate Functions, Team Building
There are some words or expressions in the English language that have
such a broad interpretation it is hard to understand their true meaning.
Team building is one of these. It is used for such a wide variety of
activities it is downright confusing. Perhaps we can start to use more
precise expressions that make it clearer what type of activity we are
looking for. Here are some suggestions.
“Team Experience” - activities designed to provide a unique experience
that people may never do otherwise. Rafting, Jetboating, making a movie,
even playing Survivor would all qualify as they are experiences you may
never get another chance to do. Ever watched a TV show and thought
about participating? Well the team experience type of event may give you
“Team Bonding” - Yep, it’s all about an activity that connects people so
they bond. They might unite in small teams to compete with other teams,
or do something unique together that becomes a great shared memory. The
point is that they feel connected with each other afterwards.
“Team Entertainment” - the name says it all. The team building activity
is purely entertainment. Singers, dancers, magicians, comedians, they
all qualify and yet I’ve so often heard them described as team building.
“Team Development” - this would refer to an activity or event that can
provide insight into the dynamics and effectiveness of the team so that
they can genuinely learn to work together more effectively. These
activities are designed to create discussion and learning opportunities.
So what are you really looking for? An experience? Bonding?
Entertainment? Or genuine team development? Perhaps if we stop calling
all these things “team building” we might save ourselves some confusion
and start understanding each other better.

I’ve seen “experts” compare team building with dragging finger nails across a black board. And yet if these comments are accurate how do we explain the countless thousands or possibly millions of people that thoroughly enjoy team building activities?

Has the team building market undergone an evolution or a revolution. It
has certainly changed and will continue to change, but the question is,
Team Focus has recently launched a great new website for people looking
for team building activities. It’s called teambuildingmadeeasy.com.au
and is a great new service for everyone in the team building industry.
