MYOFASCIAL RELEASE is a specialised form of REMEDIAL MASSAGE that addresses dysfunction in the body’s fascia - the web-like system of connective tissue that integrates the muscles, tendons and ligaments of the body. Poor posture, physical injury and emotional stress can cause this intricate fascial web to become constricted, giving rise to postural imbalances, reduced joint mobility and muscle aches, pains and dysfunction. Deep compression and stretching along the myofascial tracts, as well as gentle “unwinding” techniques are employed to release myofascial constrictions, thus relieving pressure on associated muscles, nerves, bones and joints. This aids in improving flexibility and mobility of joints, muscles and associated structures. Myofascial Release may be helpful for those suffering from chronic or acute back/neck strain, whiplash, "frozen shoulder" (adhesive capsulitis), fibromyalgia, plantar fasciitis, "runner’s knee" (patellar tracking syndrome), carpal tunnel syndrome, temporomandibular dysfunction (jaw pain or clicking), headaches, chronic pain syndromes, as well as poor posture and associated muscular tension.
